My parents were out for the week, and it was full of sightseeing, museum wandering, food eating (Vietnamese noodle bowls! pierogies and sausages! movie theater popcorn! home-cooked meals!), and hanging out. Of course, it would be the final night of their visit, before the 6:00 a.m. flight, that freezing rain and then lots of snow dumped down. Today I've been...
seeing: fluffy white wonderland; snow falling in 4:00 a.m. streetlamp; cars spinning out all over; a big pickup truck turn 360 degrees in an intersection (and then the embarrassed construction worker driver pretending like nothing happened as he parked and went to work); my students wandering in late and layered
hearing: that muffled stillness of an early morning snowfall; the curious sound of car tires on ice under snow
smelling: cold and coffee
feeling: my warm sweater; guilty for leaving my parents waiting in an airport for eight hours or so... hopeful they can catch some connecting flight home
tasting: mint tea, apples, chocolate
